Wheel Alignment

A wheel alignment is the science of precisely measuring and positioning the wheels on your vehicle to ensure the least amount of wear and tear to your tyres. A good wheel alignment is one of the key maintenance factors in getting the most wear and performance from your tyres. When your wheels are out of alignment your tyres aren’t pointing in the right direction. This will affect your steering and suspension and more importantly your safety. Today’s modern suspensions require a precise four-wheel alignment that can only be achieved through a modern alignment system. This applies to both front and rear wheel drive vehicles.

Your vehicle needs a wheel alignment due to the following;

  • Driving over pot holes
  • Hitting the curb
  • When you have replaced your tyres
  • Fair wear and tear — as vehicles age, rubber components start cracking or lose their elasticity and ball and socket joints develop looseness. They start to give a little more, progressively getting slightly worse over time.

Wheel Balance

Having your tyres balanced is important not only to the longevity of the tyre, but to the safety of the driver and the performance of the car. Unbalanced tyres cause road vibration leading to premature tyre wear and suspension. Tyres need to be balanced when there are mounted on wheels for the first time and also when remounted after a repair. They also need to be balanced at the first sign of vibration. At TGM we recommend having your wheels safely checked and balanced at least once a year.

Regular Tyre Rotation

The weight of a vehicle is not evenly distributed to all four car tyres. Therefore, regular rotation is necessary to maintain even tread wear and ensure you get the most out of your tyres.
